Retrase

Self-hosted · WebRTC · no cloud

Your cameras. Your server. Your footage.

Retrase is a self-hosted home-camera viewer. Watch your cameras live and browse history — Google Nest and any RTSP camera behind one app — streamed peer-to-peer to a relay you run. Nothing lands on someone else’s cloud.

Self-hosted

Nest + RTSP

One app for every camera

Everything a camera app should do — on hardware you own

Live view, real history, and any camera you already have, without handing your footage to a stranger’s cloud.

📹

Live view, low latency

Watch any camera live in your browser or on your phone over WebRTC — peer-to-peer, sub-second, no cloud round-trip.

🎥

Nest and any RTSP camera

Google Nest (via the SDM API) and any RTSP camera sit behind one device abstraction. Add a camera by config, not code.

🗄️

History on your own disk

The relay records continuous, keyframe-aligned MP4 clips — with thumbnails — to storage you control. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

🔀

Two planes, cleanly split

A control plane serves device metadata; a separate relay carries the video. The plane that knows your cameras never touches the footage.

🛠️

Built from source, self-hosted

Lean C++ services (Boost.Beast + libdatachannel), no ffmpeg, no Docker required. Ansible + systemd deploy to your own box.

🔑

Yours, token-gated

A shared bearer token gates both planes; the relay and its clips live behind it. Your relay, your token, your footage.

How it works

Two planes with one rule: the service that knows your cameras never carries the video, and the service that carries the video never owns your device list.

01

Control plane lists your cameras

A small HTTP service holds your device list and hands out a short-lived, token-signed URL for each live session and each recorded clip. It never carries a single frame of video.

02

The relay carries the media

A separate relay pulls each camera — Nest over the SDM WebRTC API, or any camera over RTSP — and fans the H.264 out to your browser and phone over WebRTC. The plane that knows your cameras never touches the footage.

03

History records to your disk

The relay continuously segments the live stream into self-contained MP4 clips (plus keyframe thumbnails) on storage you control. Nothing is uploaded to anyone else’s cloud — ever.

Your browser dashboard and mobile app connect out to the relay; media flows directly peer-to-peer, falling back to a TURN relay you run only when a network needs it.

Own your camera footage.

Retrase is self-hostable end to end — control plane, media relay, and history, all on hardware you control. No account, no cloud, no monthly fee.
